TN & VA - Day 7
Another day, another great ride. This morning for the start of our ride, we drove about 90 minutes north on I-81 from Asheville NC to Bluff City TN. Our biking route for the day was a bit under 60 miles through rolling farmland and forested hills.
The temperatures when we started were in the upper 50s, slightly cool but very comfortable for riding. Each of us started with our arm warmers on. These are sleeves that tuck under the arms of our short sleeve jerseys and run to our wrists. They can easily be taken off as the day warms up.
One aspect of our riding on this trip that all of us enjoy has been the windy and rolling nature of the roads. Roads like these mean that our experience biking is constantly changing. Riding in the western US is often a very different experience. The west can have some amazing vistas because of the vastness of the land, but that can also mean that the view can be remarkably similar for long stretches of time.
I thought the shape of this building on the right was interesting.
As has been the case frequently on this trip, we spent sections of the day riding alongside or crossing over rivers and streams.
Here is my red barn photo for the day.
Years ago, when I first met Ruth, she always wore pink. At that time, I took a photo of her on the bike and converted all but the pink into black and white. Then, when Ruth got a new bike neon green highlights in perhaps 2016, she shifted to mostly neon green outfits to match her bike. However, once she got her current white bike, she shifted back to pink. I took this photo today and decided to recreate a version of photo I took years ago. Since I am traveling, I do not have the original photo readily available to compare it.
I liked the perspective of this photo.
I’ll end today’s post with one more photo of the beautiful landscape we rode through. Off to Maryland and Pennsylvania tomorrow.
