Krka National Park

On Monday, we walked a bit over 5 miles in Krka National Park. The central attractions were the waterfalls.

Our route was that of a lollipop. We hiked up along the Krka River, around the waterfalls, then back down the way we came.

Here is a view looking down the Krka River perhaps half a mile into our hike.

As we hiked, I kept an eye out for birds. While I could hear a number of them, this Common Chaffinch was the only bird cooperative enough for me to get a good photograph.

Here is a photo of the main falls as we started the loop portion of the lollipop.

The falls were broken up by lots of vegetation creating some interesting views.

I am guessing that the water level must be fairly high, otherwise I am not sure how this tree has survived.

Here is a photo of the upper falls - simply stunning.

Above the upper falls were many pools of water. Here is a photo of one of the many damselflies zipping about. In many damselfly species, the blue color indicates a male.

The green color usually indicates the female damselfly.

In the pools of water there were many fish such as this one.

This frog was making quite a racket as I walked past. Notice the frog’s inflated vocal sacks.

On the hike back down, I heard this lizard as it scampered along.

I saw the movement of this snake as it decided that it wanted to be farther from the pathway.

Finally, just before the end of the hike, I spotted this Mute Swan preening itself.

While today’s hike was absolutely lovely, I seem to have done something to my left knee. It started hurting Saturday night. It got somewhat worse on Sunday. By the middle of today’s hike, it was extremely painful. One of our guides is a doctor, and one of the other guests is a retired orthopedic surgeon. After consulting with both of them, I have decided to skip the next 4 days of the trip and go to Dubrovnik to rest my knee. Kate will continue on and join me on Friday in Dubrovnik when our two daughters will be arriving. Hopefully, by resting my knee this week, I will be able to wander about Dubrovnik with the family next week.
