Biking in Harvard MA
I blog about my cycling trips all of the time, but I thought I would take a moment to share some photographs I took this past Sunday on one of my daily rides around my home in Harvard MA. Above is Eldridge Pond, less than 2 miles into my ride.
The fall leaves are starting to turn now, but many green leaves still remain.
There are several places along my various cycling routes where I am likely to see horses out in pastures.
Barns are a very common sight. Some, like this one, are in active agricultural use, while others have been converted into garages and storage.
With the start of October, early Halloween decorations are starting to make their appearances.
Stone walls, in various levels of repair, border many of the roads and separate numerous properties around town.
In the center of town is the Harvard General Store. Its most recent clams to fame was appearing in the 2019 movie Little Women as the Concord General Store. On a typical fall weekend day, the General is full of apple pickers, cyclists, and locals grabbing a coffee, a snack or lunch. For many cyclists living closer to Boston, the Harvard General Store is a both a rest stop and the turn around location for their rides.
One of the delights about riding near my house are the quiet back roads. Under Pin Hill Road, shown here, is perhaps a quarter mile from the General and the center of Harvard.
This is the view looking west from the top of Prospect Hill. It is a lovely place to watch the sunset. Every ride out my door in Harvard is full of these beautiful views which is simply a delight.
I am currently in Northeastern Vermont cycling with friends. I hope to post some photos from my ride yesterday later this morning.
