To Chaumont, France
Today we bicycled 70 miles from Troyes to Chaumont. This is a photo of the Viaduc de Chaumont. It was completed in 1856 for the Paris - Mulhouse railway. The viaduct remains in active service today.
The day started out wonderfully. The temperature was a very pleasant 65. We were quickly out of Troyes and into farmland.
In addition to hay, we cycled through sunflower fields.
At about the 14 km mark, we rode alongside the Lac d’Orient for about 7 km. Sometimes we had a nice view of the lake such as here.
Other times, the bike path took us through forests along the lake such as this.
After leaving the lake, we shifted to rural roads through farmland and villages such as this one.
Every little village had its own church.
And there was surprising variation in design.
By the afternoon, the temperatures had risen to the low 90s. I hope this tractor had air conditioning. The operator of this tractor beeped his horn at me and waved. I guess he was excited to go viral in my blog. 😀
Tomorrow we ride 72 miles to Luxeuilles-Bains.
