Solvang Biking - Day 3

Today we biked from Solvang to the Pacific Ocean. The full round trip was 76 miles. However, most of us ended up choosing to ride at least part of the return trip in the van because of the record heat wave we are experiencing. I ended up hopping in the van at mile 61.

When we headed out, the temperature was quite comfortable, in the low 70s. This photo shows some of the hills between Solvang and the ocean. Some of the time today, our road was in the shade which was wonderful.

Here is a selfie of me while I am cycling.

As has been the case throughout my time here, the landscape was lovely.

Much of today’s ride was through farmland.

After cresting the last hill, the breeze from the ocean felt wonderful as it was at least 10 degrees cooler than on the leeward side of the hill.

Once we arrived at the beach, I waded into the Pacific and let the ocean cool my feet and legs.

With the winter rains having ended recently, there are many wildflowers in bloom along the side of the road.

I will end my post today with a red barn. During my cross country trip in 2023, I seemed to have at least one red barn photo in every post. Here, they are nowhere near as common as in New England.
